Q1 - down and dusted

So it’s been about a quarter since we moved into our Willow Glen house.  A mad time - a bit like a skiing downhill without the ability to stop.. only to steer a little bit every so often.

But I suppose you know things are moving in the right direction when you find yourself at the local school Talent Show!  [not performing - Harris was]

First family dinner in the USA…

…was at in-and-out-burger.  Not an auspicious start. Healthier and tastier than McD’s though.

Yummy.

We’ve arrived!! Just got all the bags packed into the hire care :)

Two weeks until emigration

Eek. In the immortal words of The Highlander “time has almost caught us my friend”

Or last goods are being sold in TradeMe; the house is rented; last farewells, social events, partings are underway.

A next adventure lures in front of us.

Makara Grand Loop [revision]

Did my longest and most technical MTB ride this morning up at Makara Peak.  Up Koru, Sally Ally, Missing Link and Aratihi to the top of the peak by the microwave towers.

And then back down North Face, JFK, Smokin’, Big Tom’s Wheelie, Swigg and Starfish!

It’d been raining - so brown shorts on the outside.

SWIGG and Starfish had a  couple of quite scary bits - so brown shorts on the inside.

Big thanks to Falcon for the guidance - and for going first!

A lovely Saturday morning. First a successful bike ride at Skegg’s Point, up in Hills. And thence to Whole Foods in Cupertino for some yummy, gluten free, tuck!

Ding, Ding: All Change!

In a few months time we’ll have been in NZ for 11 years.  Wowser.  11 years.  It’s been great:

  • Marion got her teaching qualification and (after a 7 year Harris & Emily break) just completed her full registration.  Nice.
  • We’ve spawned a couple of Kiwi kids
  • I’ve done some interesting and rewarding jobs (DPMC, REANNZ, InternetNZ).

But change is in the wind.  For the last 18 months I’ve enjoyed the “primary caregiver” mantel: lunchbox making; school drop-off; school pick-up; activities; plays…..  It’s been great, and has also been mixed up with some independent consultancy.

A job opportunity for me came up that was too tempting to say “No” to.  It’s full time, has a bit of travel involved will be based in… Silicon Valley.

Eeek. Big changes….

Marion has snagged a regular 2-day each week slot at the school and will be re-assuming primary H&E duties [after my rather paltry 18 month stint]. I start in March, but we’ll be in Welly until October or so due to US Visa processing.
